Friend, there is no safe level of exposure to asbestos – but the FDA just announced it’s withdrawing a proposed test method to require companies to test for asbestos in talc-based cosmetics.

This decision is not only irresponsible – it’s also unlawful. Under the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022, the FDA is required to develop and mandate these tests.

The agency’s sudden withdrawal flies in the face of safety and public health. If RFK Jr. is serious about protecting people’s health, he must act now.

Talc is commonly used in cosmetics to improve texture and absorb moisture and as an inexpensive filler, a practice that can expose consumers to potentially deadly asbestos contamination.

Even a single asbestos fiber lodged in the lungs can cause mesothelioma years later. Testing is the only way to ensure talc-based products are safe.

Needlessly exposing people to asbestos in personal care products will not make Americans healthier. It’s time for RFK Jr. to keep his promise and direct the FDA to restore these protections.
