Dear John,
I have been an emergency physician for over 25 years. I have cared for my neighbors with every emergency medical condition one can imagine - heart attacks, strokes, trauma, sepsis. You name it, I’ve seen it.
But I never thought I would see elected officials create their own emergency.
Today in DC, Senate Republicans abandoned all Pennsylvanians and Americans by not renewing tax credits under the Affordable Care Act.
As a result hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians and millions of Americans will see their health insurance premiums double. As a result, hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians and millions of Americans will become uninsured.
I know what will happen. Our neighbors will lose access to healthcare, fall into medical debt, delay care, become sick, and even die.
I am the only physician in the Pennsylvania General Assembly and first one to serve in nearly 60 years. I take attacks on healthcare personally. That’s why I have championed codifying the protections of the Affordable Care Act in Pennsylvania law, preventing medical debt, preserving Medicaid, and making healthcare more affordable and accessible.
