Dear Friends,

With so much uncertainty regarding the health care crisis and rising cost-of-living, I have been hard at work on commonsense solutions that will put money back in your pockets.

Just last week, I joined a group of Democrat and Republican lawmakers to unveil a new health care framework that would extend Affordable Care Act tax credits for two more years. It’s past time we put politics aside; without these credits, nearly 142,000 of our neighbors, like Alix from Brownsville, will face skyrocketing health insurance premiums. Whether it’s a routine doctor visit or lifesaving cancer treatment, everyone deserves to access the health care they need.

Your concerns are my top priority and help guide my efforts in Congress. Stay up to date with the latest out of Washington, the Rio Grande Valley, and Coastal Bend, by signing up for my newsletter.

Last week, I testified before the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs to advocate for the immediate construction of a VA Hospital in South Texas.

It’s unconscionable that nearly 50,000 South Texas veterans, including 24,000 with service-connected disabilities, are forced to leave their city and travel hundreds of miles to the closest VA Hospital to receive care.

Our military heroes in the Coastal Bend and Rio Grande Valley deserve better.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is quickly approaching, and the Rio Grande Valley is in prime position to receive an economic boost as tourists from around the world stay in our hotels, eat at our restaurants, and shop at our stores as they make their way to watch matches in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Dallas, or Houston, Texas.

To mark the occasion, I hosted Monterrey’s mayor, Adrián de la Garza, at the U.S. Capitol where we spoke to national and South Texas press about the opportunities the World Cup will bring to our region.

Investing in our Fire Fighters and First Responders

South Texas firefighters and first responders risk their lives every day to keep our communities safe. They deserve top-notch equipment and resources to do their jobs effectively and efficiently. I proudly announced $859,756 in federal funding to support emergency operations and improve public safety for the City of San Juan ($56,727), City of Edcouch ($136,363), and the City of Edinburg ($666,666).

I remain committed to assuring our region continues to benefit from federal investments. Learn more about these funds here.

As always, if you have any questions or need help with a federal agency, contact my Washington, D.C. office at 202-225-2531 or my local office at 956-682-5545.

Sincerely,

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34)
