Friend,

We know the MAGA agenda is cruel, but today’s senate vote made that
cruelty painfully real.

Today, Senate Republicans looked directly at millions of Americans who
depend on Affordable Care Act subsidies to keep their families insured and
chose to turn their backs. They know premiums will spike on January 1st.
They know people will panic as they watch their monthly costs soar. They
knew this was the final chance to prevent real suffering. And they still
voted no.

It is devastating. And it is infuriating.

Because this wasn’t even a close call. Extending these subsidies is one of
the most popular ideas in the country. A new national poll shows that more
than seventy percent of voters – Democrats, Republicans, independents –
want Congress to keep these credits in place.^[ [link removed] ] People understand what
affordable coverage means for their lives and their loved ones. They asked
for help. They begged for stability.

Republicans answered with indifference.

This vote wasn’t about policy or fiscal responsibility or any of the
excuses Republicans like to hide behind. It was about power. It was about
a party so consumed by the MAGA movement that the real needs of everyday
people barely register anymore. They would rather let families suffer than
break from an extremist agenda that treats compassion as weakness and
government as a weapon against its own people.

Think for a moment about who Republicans just caused harm to: Parents
trying to ensure their kids have healthcare. Older adults one medical
emergency away from financial ruin. Young people buying insurance for the
first time. Gig workers. Small business owners. People with cancer. People
with diabetes. People who wake up every day terrified of losing the care
that keeps them alive.

Republicans saw all of them. And still chose cruelty.

This is not normal. It is not acceptable. And it cannot be forgotten when
the midterm elections arrive. If we want a government that listens to
voters, that protects rights and freedoms, that responds to real human
need, then we must hold Republicans accountable for this brutal vote.

People For the American Way is mobilizing voters, sounding the alarm in
key states, and building the power needed to defeat candidates who support
this dangerous MAGA agenda. But we cannot do it without you.

Millions of families are bracing for higher costs because of the decision
Republicans made today. We owe it to them – and to our future – to respond
with everything we have.

Thank you,
