On September 2, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered commanders to kill everyone on board a small vessel in the Caribbean, according to reporting from the Washington Post. Two unarmed survivors, who were prepared to surrender, were killed in a second strike based on Hegseth’s directive.

Now Hegseth is acting dishonorably and shifting the blame for the second strike, which amounts to a war crime, to Admiral Bradley.

I’m calling on Pete Hegseth and Admiral Bradley to testify before Congress and explain their decisions to launch this and other strikes in the Caribbean and the Pacific. These bombing campaigns were ordered without proper authorization, without consultation with Congress, and without a clear plan to protect regional stability.

As a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, I believe the American people deserve to know what their government is doing in their name and with their money.

At moments like this, oversight isn’t optional—it’s our duty. We need a bipartisan, national hearing to answer the most basic questions:

• What is the legal basis for these strikes?
• What is the strategic objective?
• What risks – to civilians, to U.S. personnel, to global stability – were weighed and by whom?
• Why was Congress kept in the dark?
