Last winter, 11 neighbors in Shelby County tragically lost their lives [[link removed]] to the cold. These deaths were preventable and they remind us that extreme winter weather isn’t just an inconvenience, it’s deadly.
As your next Shelby County Mayor, I refuse to let another winter catch us unprepared. I have a plan to protect our families, seniors, and most vulnerable neighbors:
* Stronger Emergency Response : Mobilize county resources to deliver timely alerts, clear roads, and get emergency crews where they’re needed fast.
* Protect Vulnerable Residents : Expand access to warming centers and ensure every elderly, low-income, and unhoused neighbor has safe shelter and heat.
* Infrastructure & Utilities Preparedness : Partner with utility providers and public works to prevent dangerous outages and frozen water lines.
* Community Awareness Campaigns : Educate residents on hypothermia, frostbite, and safe heating practices—prevention saves lives.
