John,
When I took office, I promised bold action to address the crises of addiction, homelessness, and public safety that have affected so many Philadelphians. In some way, shape, or form, everyone has been touched by mental and behavioral health challenges or substance use disorder.
With the problems so entrenched and acute, we needed to do something that had never been tried before, not in Philadelphia or anywhere in the nation.
Today, I’m proud to share that we are seeing real results in real people’s lives . Our Riverview Wellness Village is fulfilling its promise: creating new opportunities for recovery, stability, and a brighter future for people with histories of substance use disorder and homelessness.
Nearly a year after opening its doors, Riverview has become more than a recovery center; it has become a place of transformation . What was once vacant, city-owned property is now a best-in-class thriving, supportive community, with medical care, counseling, job training, and housing for residents working to rebuild their lives.
By increasing the number of recovery beds in our city by nearly 50%, providing on-site medical care, mental health services, and life skills training, and connecting residents to future housing and employment, Riverview reflects what is possible when we prioritize people and work together.
But the impact isn’t just about beds or buildings. It’s about people like those who came to Riverview weighing 125 pounds and, after months of support, are now healthy, sober, and preparing to step confidently into the next chapter of their lives.
As your Mayor, I couldn't be more proud to see these results and hopeful for what comes next as we increase the number of beds and the support we provide.
Together, we can continue to strengthen Philadelphia’s wellness ecosystem — ensuring that every Philadelphian has access to dignity, hope, and the opportunity to thrive.
One Philly, A United City.
— Mayor Parker
