John,
I’m going to get straight to the point: our democracy is supposed to
belong to all of us, but a handful of billionaires and corporate interests
are trying to buy the whole damn thing.
They’re pouring unlimited money into our elections to protect their power
and their profits — and everyday people, especially Black, brown,
working-class, and marginalized communities, are the ones pushed out of
the room.
[ [link removed] ]That’s why I’m asking: Will you click here and chip in today to help us
keep this seat in the hands of the people — right where it belongs?
This race comes down to a basic question: Do everyday people still get a
seat at the table, or do billionaires get to buy the whole thing out from
under us?
I’m running for re-election because I refuse to let the voices of real
people be drowned out by billionaire checkbooks. In Congress, I’ve
introduced legislation to take on the corrupting power of big money and
the wealth hoarding that fuels it — from the Abolish Super PACs Act, which
shuts down the loopholes that allow dark-money groups and mega-donors to
overwhelm our elections, to the Citizens Over Corporations Amendment,
which overturns Citizens United once and for all.
Because at the end of the day, I believe something simple: our democracy
should answer to the people — not the powerful.
When big money controls our politics, everything we care about is on the
line: housing, healthcare, climate action, gun safety, reproductive
freedom, workers’ rights…and the list goes on. We cannot build a
government that works for everyday people if a tiny group of ultra-wealthy
donors gets to write the rules for all of us.
A real democracy means banning dark money. It means overturning Citizens
United. It means building a political system that can’t be bought or sold,
one where representation isn’t something you can purchase and where every
community gets heard.
But here’s the truth: the same billionaires and corporate interests I’m
fighting in Congress are the same ones who come for our people-powered
movement. They think if they flood the airwaves with enough money, they
can silence us for good.
They’re wrong — but only if we stand together.
[ [link removed] ]So as we kick off this re-election campaign, I’m asking you — not the
billionaires, not the corporate PACs — will you chip in whatever you can
today to help us prove once again that organized people will always be
stronger than organized money?
This seat has always belonged to the people. And with your help, that’s
exactly where it’ll stay… just like it has every single time they’ve tried
to beat us.
Always with you in this fight,
— Summer
