We need action -- and we need it now.
At the end of this month, the ACA tax credits will expire. Millions of Americans will be forced to choose between putting food on the table or lifesaving healthcare as their premiums double, triple, or even quadruple in price.
It doesn’t have to be this way. That’s exactly what my Democratic colleagues and I fought for during the GOP shutdown -- a solution to extend these credits that keep healthcare affordable during what is already a cost of living crisis in our country. We were ignored.
Working families shouldn’t have to decide what to pinch pennies on to afford healthcare. But this nightmare is set to become a reality because Republicans refuse to put the middle class first -- instead, they are keeping their billionaire donors happy and the president is calling affordability a “Democratic con job.”
Unlike them, working families will always be my priority. I’ve fought for healthcare, better wages, and local jobs my entire career -- and as we look toward the midterm election year, it’s clear that the hard work is just beginning.
