Hi, folks – Michael here. This is going to be a longer email, but I need you to read every word of it: 

After 43 days, the longest government shutdown in U.S. history ended with the Republican Senate majority leader promising to hold a vote on a clean extension of Obamacare (or Affordable Care Act) subsidies, to keep working folks' health premiums within reach.

That vote was today. I was in favor – but all except four of my Republican colleagues voted to kill it. They succeeded.

So now, over 24 million Americans – including nearly 300,000 in Colorado – will pay double, triple, or even quadruple for their health insurance premiums in the new year.

That's thousands upon thousands more dollars, and it's coming at a time when countless regular working families are already struggling to put food on the table, let alone put a few gifts for the kids under the tree. Most folks just don't have that kind of money.

Between the end of ACA subsidies and Trump's Big, Bad Betrayal of a Bill strangling Medicaid in a wall of red tape, roughly 15 MILLION folks nationwide are expected to lose access to lifesaving health care.

That's the reality of Trump and the GOP's failed leadership: working families forced to choose between going to the doctor and bankruptcy ... all so billionaires like Trump himself can enjoy TRILLIONS more in tax cuts. I wish I were joking.

It's also a big part of why I'm running to bring the fight for you back home in the first place – because the best fixes to the issues facing Colorado cannot and will not come from the broken politics of Trump's party. Since they control Washington, the most effective pushback to Trump's agenda will come from the states. 

As governor, I promise I'll fight like hell to protect affordable health care access in Colorado, even as national Republicans hang us out to dry. 

But to follow through on this, I'll first need the resources to win this race. Hitting my final $20,000 mid-month goal of the year by this Monday’s deadline is key – and I don't stand a chance of reaching it without you, friend.
