At the end of this month, health insurance premiums are set to rise astronomically -- doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling in price. Tens of thousands of people in CA-27 will be affected.

Right now, I want to break down exactly what these “premium tax credits” are and how the clock is ticking on affordability for millions of Americans:

The term “premium tax credit” is the official name of the Affordable Care Act subsidy that lowers monthly insurance premiums. This credit acts like a coupon for those receiving healthcare through the ACA -- reducing the cost.

Keeping premiums low is essential to making sure hardworking Americans can afford their health insurance. Now, these subsidies are set to expire at the end of the year -- and Republicans are refusing to extend them or even offer an alternative. That’s why Democrats held the line during the GOP shutdown, and it’s why we must win back the House next year to protect healthcare.
