John,
We wanted to share a message that came in from Washington just moments after the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) unanimously elected our own Attorney General William Tong as its next President.
Few people understand the impact of this role better than someone who has held it before. This note from former Attorney General George Jepsen puts into words the significance of this moment for Connecticut:
“I’m writing from the District of Columbia alongside attorneys general past and present where Attorney General William Tong was just unanimously elected to begin his term as President of the National Association of Attorneys General. This is a big deal for Connecticut.
Let me tell you from personal experience what this means. At a time of intense polarization and political dysfunction, the community of attorneys general remains effective and coordinated across the political spectrum. Attorneys general continue to advance major litigation against the biggest bad actors to cut through political paralysis and deliver results for American families.
When I served as president in 2017, those relationships were pivotal in securing billions of dollars in groundbreaking settlements regarding the national mortgage foreclosure crisis, vehicle emissions fraud, and more. Today, with Attorney General Tong’s leadership, attorneys general are delivering billions of dollars to address the opioid and addiction crisis, they are taking on Big Tech to protect American youth from the harms of social media, and they continue to advance the case initiated during my tenure to end illegal price-fixing in the generic drug industry.
The unanimous support for Attorney General Tong from bipartisan attorneys general across the country reflects the deep respect he has built across this important community. And it means that Connecticut will remain front and center in the most consequential litigation and conversations facing our country today. That’s good news for all of us."
John, Connecticut continues to punch above its weight on the national stage because our state elects people who deliver meaningful results, build trust, and protect the public interest.
If you are proud of what this leadership means for Connecticut, we hope you will consider supporting the work that helps make it possible. Your contribution strengthens our organizing efforts and keeps our state moving forward.
