1 in 5 childcare workers are immigrants. Mass deportation would deepen America’s childcare crisis.
Dear John,
Families across the country are already struggling to find — and afford — childcare. Today, the American Immigration Council released a new report showing how President Trump’s mass deportation agenda threatens to push this fragile system to the breaking point.
The report includes firsthand stories from childcare providers and parents facing the severe challenges posed by immigration enforcement and visa uncertainty. In Philadelphia, one daycare center saw enrollment drop from 158 children to 97 after enforcement actions, forcing layoffs and classroom closures. In D.C., preschools have lost teachers who can no longer maintain work authorization.
Losing even a fraction of the immigrant workforce would leave families without care, push parents out of jobs, and put further stain on the U.S. economy.
