A Note from the Executive Director | | |
Happy Holidays From A Very Rich Man
As we celebrate the holidays, reflect on the year that has passed and look forward to a new year, I am both exhausted and grateful. Exhausted by a year of constantly adapting to change and grateful for the resources and ability to do so. In this life of service that I have chosen for myself, there are certainly times that I get worn out or find myself in moments self defeat. Working in this field can often be a thankless endeavor. Like many other professions, the hours are long and certain sacrifices must be made to be successful.
Early on in my career, one of my mentors told me that if I am in this business to hear people say thank you and pat me on the back, then I am in the wrong business. He went on to say that the people we serve do not owe us anything, we serve because we can and more importantly, because we choose to. Service is its own reward.
I have met so many people with generous hearts and tremendous drive to make a difference. They were simply in need of a conduit to do so. I have also met so many people in need of a difference-maker in their lives, and I have been fortunate to play that role. As a person that gets to travel between those sometimes very distinct worlds; I am blessed to still be welcomed in both.
The words from my mentor still resonate with me. And, while my bank account does not reflect it, after 30 years of service, my life is rich beyond measure. For all those that support our work, I say thank you and hope that you will continue to support us. For all those who trusted me enough to allow me into their lives and gave me an opportunity to make a difference, I say thank you.
My life will never be measured by the amount of money that I make, but by the number of people I have served, and by that measure, I am truly wealthy.
Happy Holidays everyone!

From Struggle to Strength:
A Journey of Hope
| |
Three years ago, one of our participants walked through our doors carrying heavy burdens—addiction, a criminal record, and the fear of starting over. Finding a job felt impossible.
With determination and the support of Project Thrive, they didn’t give up. After months of hard work, they secured a job through a temp agency. Today, they’re still sober, thriving in a stable career, operating complex machinery, and celebrating life as a proud grandparent.
They told us: “I can’t believe how far I’ve come. It’s all thanks to you. You’re a real asset to the community.”
Stories like this prove that change is possible when people have the right support. Project Thrive helps individuals rebuild their lives, find employment, and rediscover hope.

| | Twin Oaks Reverse Advent Calendar | | |
This holiday season, let’s flip the script on the traditional advent calendar! Instead of receiving a treat each day, we invite you to give one — by placing a daily item into a laundry basket for our shelter.
Please use the list of items shown in the image above — one for each day of December leading up to Christmas. It’s our take on the 25 Days of Giving Back, and every item placed in your basket helps spread warmth and kindness to those staying at Twin Oaks.
When your basket is full, drop it off at the shelter — and know you’ve made the season brighter for a neighbor.
