The Trump administration has stemmed the tide of illegal immigration, but its tactics have sparked debate among Christians over the ethics of the crackdowns. Catholic law scholar Michael Scaperlanda rejects the “simplistic binary” of the immigration debates, encouraging case by case consideration of asylum claims and the sharing of resources through regulated immigration.

For further reading: Back in the Obama era, Scaperlanda condemned the “Tragic Compassion ([link removed]) ” (2014) that led to thousands of unaccompanied minors making the dangerous trek through Central America and Mexico into the United States, especially through the DACA Act.

Spain’s Valle de los Caídos (Valley of the Fallen), home to the largest cross in the world, will be stripped of its Christian meaning should a government proposal be enacted. The cross and basilica, erected as symbols of healing after the Spanish Civil War by Francisco Franco, will be remade into a “space of dialogue and plurality.” This is an attack on Christians everywhere, Kristen Ziccarelli writes.

For further reading: Spain, despite its history as a Catholic country, is facing encroaching secularism and wokism. Spanish journalist Itxu Díaz wrote about the plight of Spain’s Catholic schools ([link removed]) in 2022: “In Spain, left-wing politicians and different laws and regulations—European and regional—are trying to force Catholic schools to comply with the postulates of the woke agenda.”
