The work you support here is changing what is possible far beyond our own state.
- In Oregon, voters approved Measure 114 in 2022. The law requires a permit, completed safety training, and a successful background check before buying a firearm, and it bans magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Courts have now upheld the measure as constitutional pending the state supreme court decision.
- Michigan passed a package of gun safety laws in 2023 , including safe storage law and an Extreme Risk Protection Order law that took effect in 2024. In the first year, nearly 300 people were temporarily blocked from having firearms under the new law, at the same time distributing more than 56,000 free gun locks to families.
- Maine voters approved Question 2 in November 2025 , creating a true Extreme Risk Protection Law that lets family and law enforcement ask a court to temporarily remove firearms when someone is in crisis. A direct response to the 2023 mass shooting in Lewiston.
