John,

Yesterday, Congressional Republicans voted to move the PERMIT Act forward, which would decimate clean water protections under the Clean Water Act – with a final vote TODAY.

We need to flood offices with messages to block this dangerous bill!

Send an urgent message and tell your Representative to protect clean water and vote NO on the PERMIT Act before today’s vote! ([link removed])

The PERMIT Act would gut the Clean Water Act by:

Allowing corporate polluters to release PFAS “forever chemicals” into waterways without telling regulators.

Allowing discharges of toxic factory farm waste and pesticides without Clean Water Act permits.

Drastically limiting state and Tribal review of polluting federally-permitted fossil fuel projects.

It’s critical that your Representative hears from you about the importance of protecting our water today – send your message now! ([link removed])

Thanks for taking action,

Subject: URGENT: Clean water is under attack!

John,

Republicans in Congress are poised to severely undermine critical water protections in the coming days.

The PERMIT Act (H.R. 3898) and the SPEED Act (H.R. 4776) work together to slash our country’s core environmental laws – making it easier for big polluters to dirty our water and harm our communities, all so factory farms and fossil fuel corporations can boost their profits.

Votes on these bills are scheduled within the next week. Tell your Representative to vote NO on the PERMIT Act and the SPEED Act — dangerous attacks on our clean water protections. ([link removed])

Take Action Now! ([link removed])

The PERMIT Act would weaken the Clean Water Act, one of America’s foundational environmental laws, in numerous ways, including by:

Reducing clean water protections across the board: carving massive loopholes into the Clean Water Act, excluding whole categories of waters from its protections and allowing corporate polluters to release PFAS “forever chemicals” into waterways without telling regulators.

Enabling agricultural pollution: Allows discharges of toxic factory farm waste and pesticides without Clean Water Act permits.

Speeding fossil fuel expansion: Drastically limits state and Tribal review of polluting federally-permitted fossil fuel projects like the NESE and Constitution pipelines proposed for New York.

>> Send your message to protect the Clean Water Act! ([link removed])

The SPEED Act would weaken the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), a critical environmental protection law, in numerous ways, including:

Drastically limiting the scope of review: Removing many actions from NEPA review altogether, potentially allowing factory farms to build and expand without environmental review, assessments, or accountability.

Reducing the ability to challenge weak environmental reviews: Establishes a 150-day deadline for any NEPA-related review, and severely limits courts’ ability to uphold the law.

Putting polluter profits above science and the environment: Turns NEPA on its head by requiring agencies to prioritize corporate interests over the public interest.

>> Send your message to protect NEPA! ([link removed])

Together, these bills are part of a larger push to tear down the safeguards that protect the water we drink and the air we breathe. Instead of cracking down on industrial pollution, House Republican leaders are trying to silence communities and give polluters a free pass.

Congressional Representatives must reject these dirty bills that would contaminate water supplies and our environment for the benefit of factory farms, fossil fuel corporations, and PFAS polluters. ([link removed])

Protect Clean Water! ([link removed])

These bills would be devastating for clean water, but we know that when we speak up, we can win.

Already this year, your advocacy has stopped some of the worst threats to our water, including protecting a key water safety rule for lead-free water, and stopping efforts to block state and local regulations against water-guzzling AI data centers. Now, once again, it’s critical that our members of Congress hear from their constituents about the importance of protecting our water!

Urge your members of Congress to oppose The PERMIT Act (H.R. 3898) and the SPEED Act (H.R. 4776), and any bill that would undermine the water protections that we all rely on. ([link removed])
