"Focus: Energy Dominance, AI Competitiveness, and Wyoming’s Role in Powering America’s Future"
*CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Dec. 11, 2025* -Governor Mark Gordon’s (R-WY) Chief of Staff Drew Perkins traveled to the White House last week to represent Wyoming at a historic summit convened by President Donald J. Trump.
The meeting brought together senior state officials from across the nation to discuss how states can accelerate the Administration’s top priorities. Principle among them, expanding domestic energy production, cutting regulatory barriers, and ensuring the United States prevails in what President Trump has called the “the fight that will define the 21st century”-- artificial intelligence (AI).
Governor Gordon underscored Wyoming’s pivotal role in America’s competitive posture.
“America cannot lead the world in AI unless we lead the world in energy,” Governor Gordon said. “Wyoming has the resources, the workforce, and the policy chops to accomplish this in a way that protects our environment and grows our economy. We intend to lead, on our own terms, and we intend to win.”
The summit highlighted major policy reforms underway at the federal level designed to reduce delays, accelerate critical infrastructure, and strengthen America’s strategic position in the global AI race.
Governor Gordon’s Chief of Staff emphasized that the state is already moving to capture the opportunities ahead.
“Wyoming knows how to build, how to produce, and how to get big projects done,” Perkins said. “The Trump Administration made it clear that AI is the defining strategic competition of our generation, and that competition will be won by the states that can deliver reliable, affordable and dispatchable energy to power the high performance data centers essential for AI to function. Wyoming is ready to step up to lead in powering the nation’s future.”
The Chief of Staff also highlighted the importance of continued partnership between state, federal, and industry leaders to ensure that Wyoming’s families, businesses, and energy producers benefit directly from the coming wave of investment in data-center infrastructure and next-generation power resources. Perkins emphasized Governor Gordon’s policy that Wyoming will do this on its own terms and in a manner that works for Wyoming’s natural resources and for the benefits of its people.
Also in attendance at the Summit with the Chief of Staff was President of the Wyoming Senate Bo Biteman and Wyoming Speaker of the House Chip Nieman.
