TELL CONGRESS: Trump announced that he would sign an executive order to undermine state-level AI regulations. Why? He wants to give his billionaire CEO friends free rein to profit from dangerous AI technology without any guardrails. Congress must block this sweetheart deal for Big Tech. Sign the petition: Don’t let Trump override AI safety laws!

Trump made the ridiculous claim that “AI WILL BE DESTROYED IN ITS INFANCY!” if basic state-level AI safeguards to protect kids, consumers, and the financial system remain in place.1 In an enormous gift to his Big Tech allies, Trump announced plans to sign an executive order undermining AI safety laws and send the DOJ after any state that defies his edict.2

State AI regulations aim to protect the public from the unprecedented dangers of this technology. Child safety online, consumer protections, mental health, fair hiring practices, the stability of the financial system, and cybersecurity are all at risk without AI safety measures.

Congress must fight back against Trump’s executive order and ensure that this sweetheart deal for Big Tech CEOs doesn’t become law.

Sign the petition: Oppose Trump’s ban on AI safety regulations!

The Policy Director here at Demand Progress, Emily Peterson-Cassin, explained the severity of this AI preemption proposal: “Right now, state laws are our best defense against AI chatbots that have sexual conversations with kids and even encourage them to harm themselves, deepfake revenge porn and half-baked algorithms that make decisions about our employment and health care.3

Big Tech corporations are letting their AI tech run rampant throughout society. Now, Trump wants to hand over even more power to companies developing AI, joining a push that Ted Cruz and Steve Scalise have been leading for months.

Sign the petition: Block Trump’s sweetheart deal for Big Tech CEOs.
