Friends,

One week into July, 32% of American households hadn’t yet paid their rent.

It marked the fourth consecutive month of record-setting rent defaults. Of course, we can hardly blame American renters -- the government has completely failed to protect them from the economic fallout of the national health crisis.

Unfortunately, that means that almost a third of Americans could be at risk of losing housing. And people of color -- hit disproportionately hard by evictions in the past -- are the most at risk.

Democrats in Congress, led by Elizabeth Warren, are pushing for a nationwide eviction moratorium before the most vulnerable among us are forced out of their homes in the middle of a pandemic. But Mitch McConnell has made it clear that he cares more about protecting big businesses than safeguarding everyday Americans -- and has rebuked Democratic relief efforts. If we let congressional Republicans put politics over people, untold millions could suffer. That’s why we’re reaching out to you, now, to send a message:

Should Congress act now to protect renters of color?
