Dear John,

As we close out 2025, I want to share a story that shows impact and ripple effect of supporting IGNITE.

This fall, Texas Advisory Group member and high school student Destiny Sumani testified in the state’s redistricting hearings, ensuring lawmakers heard directly from the young people whose lives would be affected. She is now launching an IGNITE high school chapter so her peers can learn in community to advocate for policies that impact their lives in a state where policy debates carry enormous weight.

Destiny is part of a growing movement. This spring, IGNITE participants across Texas advocated for HB 824, a bill expanding civics instruction in high schools. Thanks to their efforts, the bill passed both chambers and is now on the governor’s desk, one step away from becoming law.

This is the power of IGNITE: young women and gender-expansive youth raising their voices and making change now.
