Dear Friend,
I never imagined I’d be writing this kind of letter. But today, I’m reaching out not as a political person or a legal expert—just as a mother and a wife who’s terrified of losing her husband forever.
I’m begging you—if you can spare anything today, it could help us afford the defense Chance needs to fight back.
My husband, Officer Chance Bretches, is facing a 99-year prison sentence.
Yes, you read that right: 99 years.
All because, during a violent Black Lives Matter riot in Austin, Texas, he did
his job.
He didn’t shoot anyone. He didn’t kill anyone. He used a non-lethal beanbag round—a department-approved tool meant to stop someone from hurting others.
That’s all.
But because we now live in a world where police officers are treated like criminals, and criminals are treated like victims, radical District Attorney José Garza has indicted my husband for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
He wants to lock Chance up until he dies.
And if we don’t raise the funds to finish his legal defense… he just might succeed.
Please consider donating!
For months, we believed Chance’s trial would be happening
this week.
We prepared ourselves emotionally, financially, and spiritually for the moment our family’s future would be decided. But just days ago, we were told the trial has been pushed all the way to June 2026—another six months of uncertainty, another six months of fear, another six months of trying to hold our family together while this nightmare drags on.
We are exhausted. And we are terrified.
We’ve already drained our savings. We’ve already sold everything we could. Our children—all four of them—don’t know why Daddy is so worried all the time. They don’t understand why he might not be home for Christmas… or for years after that.
So I’m humbling myself to ask for your help.
Can you please give $50, $75, or even $100 today to help save my husband?
Let me tell you what actually happened.
It was May 2020. The riots had reached Austin. Buildings were being vandalized. Fires set. Rioters hurled rocks, bottles, fireworks. Officers were being injured. It was chaos.
Chance was dispatched to help restore order and protect innocent lives.
As they approached a group of agitators, a suspect refused commands and became combative.
Chance deployed a beanbag round—not a bullet—to subdue the violence. That’s it.
And at the time, no one thought anything of it. His commanders supported him. The internal investigation found no wrongdoing. His actions were in line with training and department policy.
But after George Soros-backed DA José Garza took office, everything changed.
Garza targeted multiple officers—including Chance—and began hunting for political scapegoats to appease the mob.
Now, Chance is facing the fight of his life. And so are we.
I can’t stop replaying what will happen if this goes the wrong way. What do I tell our kids? How do I explain that the world has turned upside down?
How do I keep going, knowing that the man who kisses them goodnight might be taken from them by a broken justice system?
Please—don’t let this happen.
Your donation today could literally be the difference between a father going home to his children… or spending the rest of his life behind bars for doing his job.

You may never meet Chance in person. But I want you to know what kind of man he is.
He’s not just a police officer. He’s a dad who volunteers to coach Little League. He’s the man who gets up early to make breakfast for the kids on Saturday mornings. He’s the first one to help a neighbor with a flat tire. He’s my rock. My best friend.
And now… he’s being treated like a criminal. For protecting his community.
I wouldn’t wish this nightmare on anyone. But I’m praying that people like you will read this letter and feel moved to act.
Because when the justice system turns against the very people who protect us… who will be left to stand the line?
We are running out of time. Even though the trial has been pushed to June 2026, the legal bills continue to grow every single day. Every moment matters now.
Please help us with a donation today.
With all my heart,
Kimberly Bretches
Wife of Officer Chance Bretches
