First it was Texas, then Missouri and North Carolina, and now Indiana and Florida. Democratic deterrence has collapsed. Unless we give them painful consequences Republican gerrymanders of every red state will soon follow. Trump’s plan is centered around the assumption that Democratic states will standby idly as they are unilaterally disarmed by the GOP. They don’t think we have the guts to fight back and counter their efforts. So far this assumption has largely been correct. California and Virginia are notable exceptions but if they are the only ones to step up we will not survive this. MAGA will steal enough Congressional seats to make their House majority bulletproof coming into 2026 allowing them to all but enshrine one party rule. The only way the Democratic party and our democracy survive this is if we make MAGA feel so much excruciating pain that they have no choice but to back down. This is why Coloradans are now stepping into the fray with a ballot measure to erase three red Congressional seats. Lauren Boebert’s district will be among those wiped out. They started it and now we must finish it.
