As we approach the end of 2025, we’re asking our team members to reflect on their “Why?” 

Why do they do this work, fighting against sexual exploitation? Why did they choose NCOSE?   

Here’s what Christy Horn, our Project Specialist in HR and Operations, had to say:  

“I come from a long heritage of sexual violence and misogyny; women who experienced exploitation and made their way through this world with grit and determination despite their hardships. Their stories were not believed. They were not offered comfort or resources. They were often very alone.  

I learned their stories young, and I always asked, 'How could that happen? Why did it have to be that way?'

Gradually my question became, 'Why does it have to be this way?' as I learned through my own experiences that the world is still much the same, and sexual exploitation is a common experience, almost an expectation of being a woman.”
