Today is International Human Rights Day. A day that reminds us every young person deserves safety, dignity, and the freedom to live as who they are.

Mental health and safety are human rights, especially for LGBTQ+ young people. Yet, our latest research from our longitudinal study, Project SPARK, uncovers a shocking reality: things are getting worse for LGBTQ+ young people. Suicidal ideation and attempts, paired with rates of depression and anxiety are on the rise.

Despite these statistics proving that care is needed, an alarming number of LGBTQ+ young people were unable to access desired mental health care in the past year for various reasons.

Conversely, when LGBTQ+ young people report feeling accepted by just one adult, their odds of attempting suicide are significantly lower. In many instances, by more than 40% according to Trevor research.
