Team Gonzalez Update
Anthony remains focused on how we can reopen our economy and our schools safely. His legislation to combat online child exploitation is proceeding through Congress, and as ever, Anthony is focused on how our federal government needs to position itself against an increasingly aggressive China.
Anthony is fighting for the people of Northeast Ohio, and Team Gonzalez asks for your support in return. We encourage you to help spread the word about Anthony by sharing this newsletter and signing up to safely volunteer.
Rep. Gonzalez seeks 'Confucius Institute' crackdown Anthony has cosponsored legislation that would ensure U.S. universities that host cultural exchange programs funded by the Chinese government, so-called Confucius Institutes, retain full control over the programs. From cleveland.com: "Gonzalez said China’s communist party 'has used these institutes to promote a pro-China image while actively working to steal American research and innovation and coerce our colleges and universities. It is time we hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for their actions and work to protect American institutions of higher learning.'" At least four universities in Ohio currently host Confucius Institutes. This week, Gonzalez introduces the Isolate COVID-19 Act His bill seeks to help states lease hotel properties to temporarily house individuals with COVID-19 who are not able to isolate or quarantine in their own homes. This program would be voluntary. Gonzalez was quoted in cleveland.com: “Opening up hotels for voluntary isolation will help protect our families who need it the most, especially low-income Americans, wage workers, and minorities who are unable to effectively self-isolate in their homes.” Gonzalez pushes for recognition of an Ohio Medal of Honor recipient's service after the military Anthony has joined other members of Ohio's congressional delegation in urging President Trump to bestow the Presidential Medal of Freedom upon Hershel "Woody" Williams, USMC (Ret.). Williams, 96, who served at Iwo Jima and earned the Medal of Honor for his military service, has since dedicated his life to serving and honoring Gold Star families
Coronavirus update Like most states around the nation, Ohio is seeing an increased number of cases of the Covid-19 virus. For all of us, it's important that we listen to the health experts and we each do our part to minimize the risk of a resurgence of the virus. Anthony recommends that everyone stay up-to-date with the latest information from the Ohio Department of Health website.
