Trump and Marc Rowan want to destroy the American higher education system and replace it with for‑profit scam colleges like Trump University and the University of Phoenix. Trump and Rowan don’t want to educate students – they want to turn higher education into a money‑making machine that they control.

Rowan, the CEO of Apollo Global Management and a key architect of Trump’s “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education,” helped design a loyalty oath that would force universities to scrap diversity efforts, censor what schools can teach, and tie funding to Trump’s political agenda.

Sunrise has been organizing against this attack on education by supporting students, faculty, and staff who are fighting back to protect public education for all and academic freedom. Earlier this year, we joined forces with unions and national organizations in cities from New York to Atlanta to Philadelphia, rising up and saying “No” to Rowan’s scheme, and so far our institutions are holding strong.

This is what fascists always do: attack education and knowledge so nobody knows how to fight back. If we don’t step up now to fight for our institutions, there won’t be much left worth fighting for.

Going into next year, we are building a movement to fight to protect educational institutions as places for free inquiry, real opportunity, and justice, from financial aid and immigrant protections, and to life-saving research and inclusive campuses.
