Friend,

Today is Human Rights Day, an annual observance of the core values that guide us — and a reminder of our unfinished work.

Human rights are foundational. They shape the food we eat, the air we breathe, the words we speak, the opportunities we pursue and the protections that keep us safe. But human rights only become attainable when people demand them.

Progress requires courage, accountability, and support from people like you, friend. That’s why it’s so important that you add your name in support of human rights for all ([link removed]).

Today marks the anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted in 1948.

Although the U.S. played a leading role in the creation of the declaration and continues to pressure other countries to improve their human rights, our Congress has never made these treaties enforceable in U.S. courts, and our presidents haven’t required us to follow them here at home.

As a leader in the pursuit of dignity, equality and justice for all in the Deep South, our work at the Southern Poverty Law Center often requires us to hold the U.S. government accountable for its violations of human rights treaties.

Because of you, friend, we’ve kept resisting — and winning. Add your name in support of human rights for all. ([link removed])

The holiday season invites us to reflect on the values we share — and the responsibility we hold to advance human rights close to home.

Your support has been essential in making this work possible, and your commitment to justice will ensure it continues for generations to come.

Thank you.
