What’s in a name?
There are days when I lament the 125-year-old name of our magazine: The Christian Century. Why? Because it contains more than a whiff of dated Protestant triumphalism and it fails to illuminate our many cultural, ecumenical, and interfaith commitments.
But I also like very much that Christian is in our name. We are unapologetically anchored in Christ’s church, devoted to inspiring people just like you to lead lives of deep meaning and love. We don’t rely on bombastic rhetoric. We don’t exist to offer a mystical view of an imagined past. No, we’re here to help you think critically and live creatively in our complex and sometimes troubled world.
I hope you will help keep this award-winning magazine in its distinguished place. There’s currently a dollar-for-dollar pledge match on the table thanks to some friends who are committing up to $50,000 until Dec 31, 2025. Don’t leave the Century’s vitality to a personal hope that someone else will come through. Make your own generosity come alive with a gift TODAY. And then delight in knowing that your gift has been immediately doubled!
Thank you for taking our work seriously,
