Hi John,
The government has caved in to Trump’s tariff threats and agreed to pay big pharma billions more for medicines. This is a disaster for the NHS – and experts warn the deal could cost 15,000 lives a year.(1)
Reports suggest the NHS could end up spending an extra £3bn a year on medicines – but with the government committing to eventually double the amount it spends, this figure could grow and grow.
This dodgy deal will blow a huge hole in the NHS budget, but our problems go beyond medicines. This is just the latest blow in Donald Trump’s trade wars, as he uses tariff threats to strongarm other countries into laws and regulations that will let US corporations eat into ever greater parts of the global economy.
The final text of the deal still hasn’t been published, and we think we’ve got a small window to force a change. But we need to kick up a fuss.
Can you email your MP asking them to defend the NHS and stand up against the bullying tactics of Trump and giant pharma corporations?
