Hi John,

The government has caved in to Trump’s tariff threats and agreed to pay big pharma billions more for medicines. This is a disaster for the NHSand experts warn the deal could cost 15,000 lives a year.(1)

Reports suggest the NHS could end up spending an extra £3bn a year on medicines but with the government committing to eventually double the amount it spends, this figure could grow and grow.

This dodgy deal will blow a huge hole in the NHS budget, but our problems go beyond medicines. This is just the latest blow in Donald Trump’s trade wars, as he uses tariff threats to strongarm other countries into laws and regulations that will let US corporations eat into ever greater parts of the global economy.

The final text of the deal still hasn’t been published, and we think we’ve got a small window to force a change. But we need to kick up a fuss.

Can you email your MP asking them to defend the NHS and stand up against the bullying tactics of Trump and giant pharma corporations?
Yes, I'll write
Even before this deal, high drug prices mean we often get much lower value for money from big pharma than we do from other parts of the health system. Now, experts say that diverting NHS funding to pay for this deal would result in over 15,000 excess deaths each year.

We commissioned polling which showed a huge majority (64%) of the British public oppose giving big pharma companies more money for medicines.(2) Yet the government has capitulated

And with UK-US trade negotiations now set to move on to issues including agriculture and tech, American corporations in these sectors will also be licking their lips at our government’s readiness to sell out.

Food and animal welfare standards could be on the table next. So could our ability to regulate and tax the big tech firms that already dominate our economy. The stakes are high.

The only way to stop Trump's corporate crusade is to stand up to it. Can you help us mobilise MPs to put pressure on the government to change course?
Write to your MP
Thank you for your support,
