John – Rural schools are already stretched thin, and without immediate action from Congress, the situation will get much worse. That’s why Marie is once again fighting for solutions and calling attention to this critical issue.
Last week, a group of bipartisan lawmakers joined Marie in calling on House Leadership to advance bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program.

A decline in federal funding has already forced school districts in rural Southwest Washington to combine schools and lay off staff – and if they lose funding entirely, it would mean further layoffs, inability to repair aging facilities, and even cutting down to a four-day school week.
Time is running out to reauthorize the federal funding program upon which these schools rely, and Marie is working hard to bring those dollars home.
