John,

It's Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. Last week, I sued Chinese online retailer Temu and its parent company for what might be the gravest violation of the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act we have ever seen. Before I get to the details, I’d appreciate your support so I can keep defending Arizonans’ privacy. [ [link removed] ]

Here's what Temu is doing: The app is stealing a shocking amount of your sensitive data without your consent.

My office’s review found that Temu's code includes portions recognized by experts as malware or spyware. The app collects:

* Your GPS location
* A list of every other app on your phone
* Data from your mobile device while hiding that it's doing so

It can detect everywhere you go — to a doctor's office, to a public library, to a political event, to your friends' houses.

The scope of this invasion of privacy is enormous. And it gets worse.

Temu is a Chinese company, which means it's subject to laws in China that require Chinese companies to hand over data requested by the government. The code is designed to evade security reviews. We found "large swaths" of previously banned code from the platform's precursor version.

But Temu isn't just stealing your data. They're also ripping off Arizona businesses.

We found that Temu has copied the intellectual property of brands including the Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State University. They deceive customers about the quality of their low-cost products while stealing from legitimate Arizona companies.

If you have a Temu account, I'm urging you to delete it immediately, uninstall the app, and scan your device for malware.

Arizona joins Kentucky, Nebraska, and Arkansas in suing Temu. But honestly, the federal government should be doing more to protect consumers from companies like this.

When companies violate Arizona consumer protection laws, I take them to court. It doesn't matter if they're a massive Chinese corporation — I'll fight them.

Can you chip in today to help me keep fighting for Arizona consumers? [ [link removed] ]

Your data is yours. Your privacy matters. And when companies try to steal it, I'll hold them accountable.

Thanks for having my back,
