John,
When Melat Kiros saw the horrific genocide unfolding in Gaza — and the persecution of pro-Palestinian student protesters here in the United States — she used her voice to speak out.
In 2023, she posted a response on Medium to an open letter signed by more than 200 law firms urging law school deans to crack down on pro-Palestine protests on their campuses. As a 2022 graduate of Notre Dame Law and an associate at a law firm, Melat criticized the crackdown on college students’ freedom of speech while condemning antisemitism.
As a result, she lost her job — ironically becoming the next young person to be punished for speaking out against genocide and attacks on free speech.
But Melat doesn’t regret using her voice to speak truth to power. As a candidate for Congress in Colorado’s 1st district, she has the courage of her convictions and will stand up to bullies like AIPAC, even if it costs her her job.
On the other hand, there’s CO-01 incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette, who has sold out to Big Pharma, corporate PACs, and fossil fuel lobbies and lacks the courage to stand up for what’s right.
We can unseat a spineless, corporate-backed Democrat from Congress and replace her with a progressive, working-class champion with moral clarity and bravery next year, but only with your grassroots support.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
