There are few Supreme Court cases with a larger impact on our democracy than the
Citizens United decision. Decided 15 years ago, it has allowed special interest groups to pour unlimited sums of money into our elections ever since.
The floodgates are open, and the consequences of corporations and billionaires using their fortunes to influence our elections is astronomical. The voices of millions of everyday Americans are being drowned out for the sake of the richest few.
Democracy is at its best when people, not money, decide the future. That’s why I fully support legislation to overturn Citizens United and take big money out of politics -- because your vote shouldn’t have a price tag.
As we look toward the midterm election year in just a few weeks, it’s clear how billionaires and corporations are poisoning our political process to secure their special interests while real voters and working families suffer for it.
