Greetings,
I hope this message finds you well and that your family had a happy Thanksgiving as we enter the December 2025 holiday season. After more than 54 days of an unnecessary and self-provided vacation at the expense of the American taxpayer, the good news is that House Republicans have finally decided to reopen the House of Representatives in order to continue doing the people’s business. On the other hand, rather than focusing on the affordability needs of families facing higher energy, food, housing, and health costs, the Speaker has chosen to waste precious time on censure votes and “anti-woke” culture war legislation. It wasn’t enough to pass a funding bill that not only failed to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits but that also included controversial provisions to give eight Republican Senators the opportunity to sue the Justice Department and enrich themselves with millions in taxpayer dollars.
As your voice in Congress, I remain steadfast in my commitment to assisting each and every constituent who calls Georgia’s thirteenth district home. I am actively working to lower skyrocketing healthcare costs, protect the nutrition benefits thousands of vulnerable families in Georgia rely on, ensure state government transparency and accountability are prioritized to hold chronic polluters accountable, and safeguard American’s personal financial data. I am also fighting the Trump Administration’s illegal firings and the impact these disastrous policies are having on Georgia families and federal workers.

Democrats Fight to Save Health Care Tax Credits
We are running out of time. Democrats are fighting to protect health care for millions of Americans and demanding Republicans urgently pass an extension to the ACA premium tax credits which expire at the end of this month. At a time when electricity bills and grocery prices are already sky high, families will be forced to go uninsured or make incredibly tough choices just to make ends meet. Millions of Americans will be one diagnosis away from bankruptcy. In GA-13, more than 100,000 people will see their health care costs rise if Republicans don’t act. A 6o-year old couple will see their premiums rise by $27,959 and an average family of four earning $66,000 a year, will see their premiums rise by $2,651, according to the House Budget Committee.
You deserve better. That is why I proudly joined every House Democrat in signing a discharge petition to force an up-or-down vote on a three-year extension to the Affordable Care Act tax credits. For many, these tax credits are the difference between having health insurance and going without. All we need are four Republicans to show some courage and join us to bring the discharge petition up for a vote. Read More HERE.
Strengthening SEC Data Protection Standards
As a senior member on the House Financial Services Committee, I am leading the fight to protect data breaches at our financial regulatory agencies. This month, I filed bipartisan legislation to strengthen cybersecurity standards and data protection protocols at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). My bill would establish uniform policies and procedures governing how the agency requests, handles, stores and protects sensitive data.
The rise in cyber intrusions and data exposure incidents underscore the urgency in which the SEC must adopt strong, transparent and uniform procedures. Continuing to rely on outdated data protection frameworks could jeopardize the trust Americans have placed in the U.S. financial system. The SEC Data Protection Act is an important step toward common sense reforms and guaranteeing regulators have a robust process in place when it comes to the necessity and protection of confidential information. Keeping Americans Fed
The lapse in appropriations impacted many Georgia families. I was heartbroken when I discovered the Trump Administration was trying to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court to fight a lower court’s order that SNAP benefits be paid in full. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is the largest anti-hunger program in the United States and helps over 42 million Americans, including 16 million children afford food.
That is why I proudly cosponsored H.R. 5950, the Keep SNAP and WIC Funded Act, a bill that directs the Agriculture Department to release billions of emergency dollars to ensure benefits continue to feed hungry families and ensures USDA takes all necessary steps to reimburse states that stepped up to feed families during the Republican government shutdown. I also cosponsored H.R. 6088, the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act which, if passed, will repeal the devastating cuts to SNAP included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Protecting Atlanta’s Charging & Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Grants
Georgia, as a national leader in infrastructure and innovation, is committed to building a reliable fast-charging network. In 2024, as a part of that commitment, the City of Atlanta was awarded nearly $11.8 million in federal funding by the Department of Transportation (DOT) under the CFI program to build a fast-charging megahub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Unfortunately, the DOT continues to delay this funding. I recently sent a letter demanding DOT immediately review and execute the City of Atlanta’s pending grant agreement in order to release the already-approved funding. Doing so will ensure Georgians can obtain the fast-charging infrastructure and federal investment they are entitled to. Read More HERE.
Releasing the Epstein Files
After months of unnecessary delay, refusal to swear in a duly elected U.S. Representative, and Democrats’ forcing Speaker Mike Johnson’s hand, the House passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The measure will require the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release all files and communications related to the actions of convicted sex offender Jeffery Epstein and his collaborators. Amidst so much division, one issue of agreement among Americans was demanding transparency and accountability for the countless young victims who were trafficked by Epstein.
Make no mistake, President Trump could have released the files months ago—and even after Congress passed the bill 427 to 1—the President continues his effort to withhold an expedited release. Rather than allowing DOJ’s procedural hurdles to delay the public’s right to know what its government is up to, Democrats are pursuing all necessary legal actions to ensure DOJ fully complies with FOIA and releases all non-exempt records.
Thank you for staying in touch with me, and I look forward to continuing to serve you and your family. As always, feel free to call on me and my staff in Stockbridge and DC. Learn more at www.DavidScott.House.gov and follow me on X, Facebook, and Instagram.
