Power to Decide Celebrated its 13th Thanks, Birth Control Day!

This November, Power to Decide celebrated its 13th Thanks, Birth Control Day. Many took to social media to share the different ways birth control has impacted their lives, careers, and health using the hashtag #ThxBirthControl. Members of the community highlighted not only how birth control has improved their health and access to opportunities, but also the sexual and reproductive health care resources available.

As part of the celebration, Power to Decide’s Monica Edwards and Tara Mancini joined the rePROs Fight Back podcast to discuss ongoing federal and state attacks on contraception, as well as the growing spread of online mis- and disinformation. Give the episode a listen below!

Power to Decide Won the Shorty Impact Award for Single Post

Power to Decide was named winner at the 10th Annual Shorty Impact Awards for the Single Post category. The Shorty Impact Awards celebrate mission-driven brands, agencies, and nonprofits, showcasing campaigns that lead positive change and drive progress through meaningful actions. The winning video features a scene from Station 19 in which Dr. Bailey and Dr. DeLuca pose as patients in order to expose the crisis pregnancy centers.

Crisis pregnancy centers prey on vulnerable populations at a time when they are searching for medical support, and popular media can serve as a powerful tool to stop misinformation, particularly when explained by Dr. Miranda Bailey. And, showcasing vetted resources such as AbortionFinder.org in the media is key to getting the facts out.

It’s Different for Girls

As attacks on birth control increase, many are looking to find a method that works best for them, and efforts to develop male birth control take on a new sense of urgency. The documentary It's Different For Girls ([link removed]) explores the science, history, social context, and whether gender bias is at play in the delays in the development of male birth control options. Power to Decide is proud to have worked with the film’s Director and Producer, British journalist Billie JD Porter ([link removed]) (featured in Vice, BBC, and Vogue), on background throughout the process, including contraceptive deserts ([link removed]) data and the importance of access to birth control options.

The film has been featured in top film festivals, screenings, and press coverage ([link removed]) throughout the year, and will close out 2025 with a December screening in NYC and at the Hamptons Doc Fest ([link removed]) . Continuing Resolution Includes SRH Programs Funding

On November 12th, Congress passed a continuing resolution (CR) reopening the government and restoring level funding through January 30th. The CR includes level funding for key programs like the Title X Family Planning Program (Title X), the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPP), and an extension of the Personal Responsibility and Education Program (PREP). As we near the end of the calendar year, policymakers will continue negotiations on legislation to extend the ACA enhanced premium tax credits with a possible vote in December.

As negotiations on this and the final fiscal year 2026 appropriations bills continue, stay tuned for updates and additional ways to take action.

North Dakota Abortion Ban is Reinstated

On Friday, November 21st, the North Dakota Supreme Court handed down ([link removed]) a 3-2 decision finding that the abortion ban is unconstitutionally vague under the state constitution. However, the North Dakota constitution requires at least four justices to agree that a law is unconstitutional for it to be invalidated. Therefore, the total ban passed in 2023 went into effect. This doesn’t materially change abortion access on the ground, as the last operating clinic in North Dakota moved across the river to Minnesota after the decision in Dobbs v Jacksons Women’s Health.

This means as of this writing, 13 states totally ban abortion, and 7 other states have gestational age limit restrictions that would not have been allowed under Roe v Wade. This includes a ban at six weeks in Florida; bans around six weeks (when cardiac activity can be detected) in Georgia, Iowa, and South Carolina; 12-week bans in Nebraska and North Carolina; and an 18-week ban in Utah.
