Hi John,
The governor announced yesterday that Texas is partnering with Turning Point USA [[link removed]] to create chapters of the far-right organization in high schools across the state.
Gov. Abbott praises clubs like these as champions of “religious freedom” and “free speech,” yet in the same breath, he targets student groups he disagrees with. Earlier this year, he signed Senate Bill 12, a sweeping law that, among other things, bans student clubs with an LGBTQIA+ focus.
Please support the critical work we're doing [[link removed]] to counter the influence of the religious right in Texas.

At Texas Freedom Network, we see this Turning Point USA partnership for what it really is: Republicans' latest attempt to use public education to advance a narrow-minded political and religious agenda.
In November, Lt. Governor Patrick pledged $1 million [[link removed]] of his campaign funds to put Turning Point USA into Texas high schools and colleges. Just a month later, Abbott is using his political office to make it happen.
Our students in public schools deserve true freedom, and schools and clubs where they can be their fullest selves and learn about the diverse people and beliefs that make up our country. TFN mobilizes at the Capitol, at the State Board of Education (SBOE), and in local school districts to ensure our kids come before political agendas .
Our Texas Rising program cultivates student leadership and civic engagement through community-building, dialogue, and voter registration efforts, empowering young people of color to be engaged voters and become future leaders.
Our students are engaged, but we need your help to deepen our work [[link removed]] . Please donate to our Rapid Response Fund.
In the fight,

Felicia Martin (she/her)
TFN Executive Director
