When I think of Muslim Advocates, I think of a fearless, woman-founded, Muslim-led civil rights institution that will take on any opponent in its fight for equal rights. That’s why I’m here.

My name is Mary Bauer and I just joined Muslim Advocates as its new legal director.

It has been a long road to get here. I’ve devoted my entire career to protecting the rights of marginalized people. Most recently, I represented migrant workers as the General Counsel at Centro de los Derechos del Migrante, as well as led the Immigrant Justice Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center to address systemic abuses in the immigration and detention system.

I come to this work ready to fight, but also ready to listen. I want to hear from you: Why are you a supporter of Muslim Advocates? And what legal matters do you think we should be taking on?

It’s my job to ensure that American Muslims can live, work, study, worship and travel free from bigotry and discrimination. We have an impressive track record at Muslim Advocates, having won important gains on a wide range of issues, from the Muslim Ban, to religious accommodations in the prison system, to hate crimes, to attacks on the right to build a mosque or cemetery, and discrimination in banking, employment, and more.

We have a critical mandate — and we’re ready to take on the largest companies, the most powerful politicians, and the most well-funded hate groups in America to protect your rights.
