 Friend, Republicans are steering this country straight into a healthcare crisis — and they're doing it with their eyes wide open. At the end of the year, the Affordable Care Act tax credits will expire. If Republicans in Congress refuse to act, tens of millions of people will see their premiums jump by an average of 114%. Families on the ACA will get hit hardest, but the pain won't stop there. Employers and people with private insurance are already warning that their costs will climb too. Last week, I put forward a simple, clean solution: a three-year extension of these life-saving subsidies. Every Senate Democrat is ready to vote for it this week, but we need to keep the pressure on to make sure Republicans act.
The American Cancer Society told us what's at stake. Ninety-six percent of cancer patients who rely on ACA subsidies say they will struggle to get the care they need if these credits disappear. Meanwhile, Republicans can't even agree among themselves. Some want a shorter extension. Some want new restrictions. Others want to blow up the ACA entirely. As Americans brace for skyrocketing bills, they still don't have a plan. You deserve leaders who fight for you, not ones who gamble with your health. A clean three-year extension is the only plan that keeps premiums down, keeps families insured, and prevents a manufactured crisis. There is no excuse for delay. There is no excuse for cruelty.
