The EPA is abandoning a critical air pollution rule that prevents thousands of U.S. deaths. This regulation targeted toxic pollution that you know as “soot.” This is the dirtiest stuff in our air and the deadliest pollutant in the country.
Scientists warned that failing to enforce this rule will mean dirtier air, more disease, and more early deaths. Yet Trump’s EPA is killing the rule.
Soot pollution is not abstract. It is microscopic poison. These particles are so small that they slip deep into our lungs and bloodstream.
The more we learn about air pollution, the clearer the picture becomes. It harms children’s health. It increases the risk of heart disease. It affects cognitive development and kids’ ability to do well in school. It shortens lives.
And soot sits at the very top of the danger list.
Communities living near highways, refineries, power plants, and industrial sites will suffer the most from this rollback. Instead of protecting public health, the EPA is giving polluters a break while our families breathe dirtier air.
