There's no spinning the numbers.
Ground beef, orange juice, bacon, and bread are all more expensive than they were last year [[link removed]] . In 2025, the President's tariffs imposed an average tax of $1,100 per household, and that burden is projected [[link removed]] to climb even higher next year. That amounts to the largest tax increase [[link removed]] (as a percentage of GDP) since 1993. A whopping 76% of business owners have raised their prices this year (by an average of 12% [[link removed]] ), squeezing American families each time they reach the checkout counter.
Healthcare is more expensive, too, as Trump has insisted on slashing subsidies for working families. His undermining of the Affordable Care Act increases premiums (for more than 140,000 Connecticut residents) by an average of $2,380. A household of four will soon see their premiums rise by over $10,000 per year [[link removed]] .
And your electric bill? The White House has tried to get in the way of new energy generation in CT, grinding work on our major offshore wind development to a halt. Those offshore wind turbines are already 80% complete, and once up and running they'll reduce strain on our grid, bring down prices, and provide energy for more than 350,000 households. Bizarrely, this past September the President's Department of Energy demanded that all work on the turbines come to an immediate halt.
As you might expect, the President is responding to these rising prices by taking responsibility, expressing solidarity with families who are struggling, and putting forward a plan to bring down prices.
Just kidding . He called affordability a "Democratic scam" during a recent cabinet meeting, and the Vice President told us to "have a little bit of patience."
I'm not going to be patient. I'm going to keep fighting to bring down costs for your family, because I know that affordability is no scam. Too many families in my district are struggling to make ends meet during this holiday season. I'm looking forward to returning to Washington and addressing this crisis with the urgency it deserves.
