At a time when families are getting crushed by the cost of groceries, rent, and electricity, Trump stood at a podium and declared that America’s affordability crisis is nothing more than a “Democrat hoax” and “the greatest con job.”

Yes, really.

The same man whose tariffs raised prices… the same man whose policies fueled a new wave of inflation… is now gaslighting the entire country, insisting that “almost everything is down” while Americans struggle to afford basic necessities.

Organizations like ours — fighting for the working class every single day — take this as a slap in the face. In all honestly, this may be one of the most out-of-touch things a president has ever said, even by Trump’s already staggering standards.

Trump’s denial of the reality people are living through is dangerous.

Because when he calls affordability a “hoax,” he’s telling millions of working families that their pain doesn’t matter. He’s telling struggling parents, seniors, and low-income communities that their lived reality is fake.

And now he’s doubling down with rollbacks, giveaways to big oil, and policies that only widen the wealth gap — all while claiming Democrats are the ones to blame.

We can’t let this gaslighting define the 2026 midterms.
