In 1973, Congress designated August 26 as "Women's Equality Day" to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment, finally granting women the right to vote. The hard work and dedication of the suffragettes is something to be celebrated. It's no secret: there's a long road ahead for gender equality -- but in Congress, we're building a strong team to move us forward.

Women's Equality Day is a good time to focus on the benefits of having diverse women in office - both here in Oregon, and in D.C. The unique perspectives, experiences, and approaches they bring to Congress make this country better. It's a true privilege to get to know them and work with them as we champion policies that advance equality.

One thing is clear: empowered women empower women. Let's keep up this momentum for our next big fight: 2020.
