I want to introduce you to a member from my organizing region: Ruthie Sherrill. As the organizer for northwest Alabama, including Tuscaloosa, Ruthie and I have been working together through Arise since the early days of our organization, around 30 years. She says she hopes our work will ensure safety, good health and quality of life for everyone:

“People need a voice in policies from the start. That’s why I’ve always valued the focus on grassroots at Arise. I’m passionate about so many of Arise’s issues – expanding our voting rights, fighting against the Medicaid and SNAP cuts, and funding public education and transportation. All these issues affect me, my friends, and so many people. Supporting the vulnerable in our state raises the quality of life for all of us. Arise’s work is about justice.”

Over the years, Ruthie has done tremendous work with Arise. She has served on our board of directors, led her church in Arise membership activities and traveled with us to speak with the Governor and national foundations about education reform. She remains committed to building a better Alabama alongside members like you. You will find Ruthie speaking out at our next Legislative Day in Montgomery on Tuesday, February 24th!
