Friends and Neighbors,

Earlier this week, the New York Times published my op-ed urging citizens to fill out the census, and I wanted to make sure you saw it. Check it out here: [link removed]

The census determines how resources are distributed across the country for the next decade, including funding for schools, health care facilities, public housing and other services. We cannot afford to lose funding in these essential areas, so we must make sure the census is fair and accurate.

As I explain in the article, a report in the House Oversight Committee revealed that if just 1% of our city is undercounted, we could lose $7.3 million in federal funding for our schools and nearly $3.7 million for jobs programs.

It has been a difficult year in New York City, but low response rates on the 2020 census could make this a difficult decade.

Whether or not you live in NYC, if you haven’t already, please go to [link removed] and fill out the census right away.

Thank you for helping to make sure everyone is counted!

Carolyn
