Dear John,
Some stories stay with you long after you hear them. This is one of those stories.
A husband and wife in Oregon, devout Christians, faithful churchgoers, people who simply wanted to open their home to children who needed love, applied to become foster parents.
They were ready. They were trained. They were qualified.
But they were denied.
Why?
Because they would not agree to do two things the Oregon Department of Human Services required:
Affirm an LGBTQ child's sexual orientation or gender identity
Expose a foster child to religions other than their own
On those grounds alone, the State rejected them.
This wasn’t a question of safety. This wasn’t a question of competency. This wasn’t a question of the needs of a child.
It was a question of faith and whether that faith disqualified them from serving children who desperately need stable homes.
And it wasn’t just this couple. This is quickly becoming a pattern across the country.
That’s when PJI stepped in.
Our legal team is now representing them, challenging the State of Oregon for violating their constitutional rights and discriminating against them solely because of their Christian beliefs.
This isn’t simply a policy disagreement.
This is the government telling people of faith they are unfit to parent.
And that’s something PJI will not allow to stand.
Please donate to PJI this month to ensure we can continue to stand for people just like this couple in Oregon in 2026!
