Friend – The ACLU of Wisconsin has a long history of fighting for the rights of all Wisconsin voters, and that tradition is something we’re proud to continue this election season. In addition to pushing for free and safe elections amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we have also been advocating on behalf of eligible voters held in Wisconsin jails, many of whom are being denied opportunities to vote despite having a constitutional right to do so. We recently released a report with All Voting is Local – Wisconsin, which revealed that eligible voters in our state jails are being disenfranchised because facilities lack policies and enforcement that they should have to ensure equal access to the ballot. County sheriffs have the power to change that – but we need your help in order to convince them. If you want to help expand voting access and protect the rights of eligible voters in jail, we encourage you to check out our Ballots for All toolkit, where you can see action steps that you can take, learn how to engage your sheriff, find sample letters to the editor as well as sample petitions, discover how to support voter registration in jails, and more. If we aspire to live in a democracy where we can all make our voices heard, then all voters, including those in jail, must have equal opportunity to exercise their right to cast a ballot. Thank you for your continued support of our work. Sincerely, Ryeshia Farmer |
