Reminder: Property tax payment deadline is 12/10. Have you signed the Save Prop. 13 petition?

December 10 is the deadline to pay the first installment of 2025-2026 annual property taxes. To avoid a 10% penalty for delinquency, make sure your payment is postmarked on or before December 10, or paid online on or before that date. Contact your county treasurer and tax collector with any questions.

Increases in annual property taxes in California are limited by Proposition 13. The taxable value of your home or other property goes up with inflation, but the annual increase is capped at 2%. If we ever lost Proposition 13 and properties were taxed under the old rules -- reassessment to market value every year and no cap on the tax rate -- many Californians would be taxed out of their homes.

That's why it's so important to sign the petition to get our new initiative, the Local Taxpayer Protection Act to Save Proposition 13, on the ballot. Have you signed it yet?

We've made it easy to print and sign the petition at home. (Signatures only count if they're ink-on-paper, on an official petition.)

Here's a link directly to the petition, ready for printing on any printer.

Or the petition can be mailed to you. Just fill out the form here, and we will send it as soon as possible.

Family, neighbors and friends can sign, too, if they're registered to vote. Let's protect everyone from higher taxes!

We need 875,000 valid signatures of registered California voters to get this measure on the November 2026 ballot. The deadline is mid-February. But don't wait. Get the petition today!

Please forward this newsletter to friends, family members, and neighbors, and encourage everyone to sign. We must stop the attacks on Proposition 13. How long could you keep your home if property taxes were based on current market value every year, without Prop. 13's protection?

There's no time to lose; the deadline is coming up fast. Thank you for your help to Save Proposition 13!

With urgent thanks,

Jon Coupal

President, HJTA

P.S. Please mail your completed and signed petition as soon as possible to: HJTA, 1201 K Street, Suite 1030, Sacramento, CA 95814. Thank you!
