"“Families, seniors, and communities are stronger when they are healthy and have reasonable access to healthcare.”"
*CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Dec. 8, 2025* - Governor Mark Gordon (R-WY) today underscored his support for his budget recommendations regarding the Wyoming Department of Health. [ [link removed] ]The budget [ [link removed] ] recommends targeted increases to sustain Wyoming’s network of critical providers, including support for developmental preschool services, home-health reimbursement for high-needs children, improved OBGYN access, and community-based resources that allow seniors and those with developmental disabilities to be served in their homes or the most appropriate community settings.
“As over 90 percent of the Department's budget goes into communities in the form of direct care services or payments to healthcare providers and businesses that support Wyoming residents, I commend the members of the Joint Appropriations Committee and the Subcommittee who dedicated so much time during the interim to studying the intricacies of the department's budget and the critical services it supports,” Governor Gordon said.
The Governor also emphasized his strong support of President Trump’s innovative Rural Health Transformation Project (RHTP) [ [link removed] ]. The RHTP emphasizes the need to safeguard access to essential health services for families, seniors, in rural communities across the Cowboy state.
In his budget message [ [link removed] ], the Governor laid out a clear vision for strengthening Wyoming’s health care system through continuing his policy of strategic, long-term investments rather than short-term fixes. He highlighted rising costs, workforce pressures, and gaps in access, particularly in rural areas across Wyoming, as significant challenges the state must confront directly.
“Families, seniors, and communities are stronger when they are healthy and have reasonable access to healthcare,” Governor Gordon said in his budget message. “We must maintain access to safety net services for all Wyoming communities, including quality care for children, seniors, people with developmental disabilities, and others who lack physical or financial means.”
The RHTP aims to pioneer Wyoming’s rural health system and provide more dependable, long-term solutions for communities facing declining services.
“Wyoming is excited by the prospects of advancing sustainability and innovation through the new Rural Health Transformation Program,” the Governor said in his budget message. “Changes we make must be valuable and enduring. We must ensure this federal money is well-spent and put to use for the greatest good, not just over the next five years.”
The Governor has submitted an exception request in his budget for the federal spending authority necessary for the Wyoming Department of Health to begin implementation once the plan receives final approval.
