John:
If you’ve been tuning in to Ban The Trade for a while, this won’t surprise you.
If you’re new to the club, Rep. Rob Bresnahan (R-PA) is about to be one of your least favorite people in Congress.
A few months ago, Congress decided to pass a bill that cut $1 trillion to Medicaid over the next decade. That sounds bad enough, but did you know that some members took that as an opportunity to line their own pockets with cash?
Let me set the scene for you: it was late June. Congress was fighting over the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Medicaid cuts were on the horizon, and Rep. Bresnahan knew it. He dumped six figures’ worth of healthcare stocks, covering four companies that cover half of all Medicaid enrollees, nationally.
One week later, he abandoned the over 3 million Pennsylvanians on Medicaid by voting for massive cuts. The value of the stocks he sold off started to plummet in response to the news, and Bresnahan failed to disclose this sale until much later.
And the worst part? This was legal.
Since taking office in January, Rep. Bresnahan has made over 600 trades in the stock market. He has made over $7 million using privileged information he has access to as a member of Congress. This is a far cry from his campaign promise to end congressional stock trading, and his constituents are furious.
We’re right there with them.
That’s why we’re fighting this corruption in two ways:
- We’re supporting recent Congressional efforts to ban congressional stock trading, which recently had a hearing in the House, and
- We’re endorsing real anti-corruption candidates for office, including Paige “Against The Machine” Cognetti, who is challenging Broken Promise Bresnahan for his seat in Congress!
Since we started Ban The Trade earlier this year, we’ve been able to gain momentum across the ideological spectrum. Now, there is vocal support from both parties to end congressional stock trading, and a bipartisan push to get the job done is closer than ever before.
Help us put an end to members of Congress using their office for personal profit by supporting our fight to ban the trade:
Now is our opportunity to ban the trade for good, and working together, we’ll make it happen. Thank you for being part of the fight.
